Dude are you fucking serious?

I never written a "response review" before, but after viewing this I felt compelled to write a review in response to the one you left on the "HTF music video" I did.

With all due respect, when you compare yourself to someone in a review you shouldn't try to lecture them if your own work isn't up to par with the person your comparing yourself to.

All the "cheap flash techniques" I used (as you put it in your review),
you used here (like duplicating movie clips). The only difference is I was using a HIGHER frame rate than you, which means more work on my end.

The rotoscoped scene in the THF video ran at 25 F.P.S. on ones, and consisted of over 800 individually hand drawn frames. This seems to be running at 12 F.P.S., and appears to be using a bunch of tweens WITHOUT ANY EASING...

In fact most of the shots you used weren't even animated, they were just still shots.
The drawings themselves looked fairly crude, (you should have used the smooth tool).

The shots that were animated were really poorly done with most of the the in-between frames missing.

You also criticized the pacing, if you listened to the song, there really isn't much I could have cut to.

Lastly the commentary was an extra, Jesus tit and ass fucking christ you don't have any extra's in this video! In fact you don't even have a custom pre-loader, that's just lazy dude.

If your going to write a review learn to be less arrogant, and hypocritical, otherwise you'll come off as a douche. Then again this is newgrounds where even a sixteen year old has an opinion...

What's that old saying about opinions? Oh yeah "opinions are like assholes everyone has one and they're usually pretty shitty".

Sincerely,
- Celx

To clarify...

Since I received a few private messages regarding this matter, I'd just like to put this matter to rest and say the artwork in this comic wasn't stolen from me.

The only thing I did for this submission was the programming, and text animation, as stated in the credits.

Anyway this comic has fantastic artwork, and a marvelous audio track to compliment the story, so kudos to the artist.

Given my role I might be biased though :)
Happy Halloween folks!

GAH! Some people thought I stole your work with this?! I mean look at my art gallery people!!! Celx has a completely different style than I! Look at my art gallery people! And the credits!! It's stated that he was the programer!

Isn't it funny?

Everyone here is giving you such a high rating for "boobs" when there aren't any actually shown?

I digress Harry I've always been a big fan of your work, I believe you to be one of the top 10 animators on this site, and tht is why this review is semi painful to write...

Seeing as how this was meant to be a trailer I'll review it as such.

Animation:
The animation was slick as always, you truly have mastered the craft.

Drawings:
Once again very sharp work. The character designs remind me of the designs Gerald Scarfe did for the Disney film "Hercules". And Sucho was a very good choice for the backgrounds, her work is always appealing to the eye.

Sound:
All the voices, and music fit the characters, I can't really complain much.

Content:
I suppose this is where I feel the major flaws in this trailer lays...

First off it appears you targeting a more mature audience, yet you don't actually show any nudity, which seems somewhat condescending to the people your attempting to target. I say this because in the cartoon you depict the main character slapping a girls ass, in the midst of a mass orgy, which is a fairly misogynistic scene.

Obviously you feel the audience is mature enough to distinguish that this behavior is inappropriate, or at the very least cheeky humor, why then is actually depicting nudity off limits? It's seems somewhat silly and hypocritical to me.

I mean imagine if Ralph Bakshi decided to direct the social satire "Coonskin", without the swear words, or racist imagery? the film wouldn't have the same effect would it?

I also suppose that the teaser felt really short, and due this I don't really have much of an idea what to expect, aside from beautiful artwork and marvelous animation.

I do want to check it out, I'm just not convinced I'll like it when I do...
Sincerely,
- Celx

Interesting...

Hello,

Instead of dissecting the story, I think I'm more interested in critiquing your art and animation style.

Your drawings are very rough, but the shading you use gives them a creepy refined feel, as if they were composed by a mentally retarded serial killer or something. I mean that as a compliment.

In a sense they are somewhat similar to the artwork of Frank Sudol, who released a quark based cartoon called "city of rott", or perhaps even similar to the flash work of everyones favorite pretentious cock David Lynch. I would however spend a little more time on the backgrounds, they seems a little bland right now.

I digress the animation was solid, you made a decent use of the tween feature,
and your frame by frame segments show some skill. There is some room for improvement such as more organic movements, and complex poses.

I also like the fact your attempting to tell a larger story, although I thought it was a little tedious at parts to be honest.

Overall it's not a bad film, and after reviewing a bunch of poorly made flash films this was a little refreshing.

Sincerely,
- Celx

4chan would be impressed... I'm not.

Basically,

This collab consists of a bunch of extremely short segments that are tweened poorly, lampooning cartoons which have been parodied a billion times before in better ways.

The majority of these cartoons are so bad that I don't want to do a cerebral discharge on them, since it's apparent they have been created solely for shits and giggles.

That said the star falling down the stairs wasn't poorly animated, and the spongebob thing was kinda cool and fluid.

It's always a bad sign when even the collab menu is poorly designed.
Work on everything and you'll have a better finished product.

No yellow submarine...

I don't want to come off as pernicious, but this was quite bad...

The thing that's hampering your work most is the drawings need more work,
they don't seem "right", and appear rushed. The backgrounds in particular are in need of a massive overhaul.

The animation needs to consist of something other than garbled tweens,
try attempting at least a little of frame by frame animation.

This is supposed to be a music video, so make sure the audio
quality is good, go into the publish settings and select a higher audio setting.

Lastly make it longer, I don't think you can convey any themes with such a terse running time.

Do these things and you'll have a better finished product.

Sincerely,
- Celx

up-a-notch responds:

do you listen to the beatles? i know about the FBF thing, but no yellow submarine...seriously?

Zero...

The graphics are terrible, the animation is abysmal, no themes or story to speak of,
you have an excellent soundtrack consisting of nothing.

I could write about how you could improve,
but I am aware you created this solely for shits and giggles.

I think I'm going to have to down a full bottle of Johnny Walker Blue
to cleanse my mind of your terrible vision...

Short but sweet...

Hello,

I'm biased, but I really like the white on black aesthetic.
The drawings were appropriate for the film, and the animation was pretty
solid, everything seems to have been done "frame by frame"...

The way the music was synced to the animation was well done,
although dynamic sounds would have been really cool.

I guess the one big flaw was it was too damn short, I would have liked to have seen
more stuff happen.

I like your work it's unique, "artsy" if you will.
Hope you keep at the craft!

Sincerely,
- Celx

Surn responds:

Thanks for your input.

The reason I joined the R.R.C.

Hello,

I gotta say this film is a gem, what you lack in character designs you make up for in the fluidity of your animation.

One issue I have with this film however, is it's length, it's just too damn short.
The credit sequence tween also seemed wrong, like you fudged it or something.

Aside from that, it was wonderful stuff, truly a cool hidden gem.
I hope you'll continue to animate, I really want to see what you could do with a narrative.

Sincerely,
- Celx

Very good... And a question!

Hello,

As I mentioned before you probably know what works, and what doesn't in your films at this point, so I'm not going to dissect this submission like I did in my last reviews.

I do however have a question, the part where the dudes face melts off, and those sausages tell that man to run. Was that inspired by the film "the brave little toaster",
by disney? Because it was quite similar to the "clown" scene in that film...

Thanks,
- Celx

SpamClamberton responds:

holy shit.
Yes it most certainly was, and I think you are the first person who's noticed my sneaky reference there.

My vices are also my virtues...
