Short and incoherent in a bad way.

Hello,
I must say the voice acting was pretty solid.

Unfortunately the rest was severely lacking.
The animation was pretty bad, although I did like the animated text.

The non-sequential humor you were going for didn't work at all,
very few people can pull off "random" humor, and those that do get away with it, do so often by presenting truly bizarre, and often times graphic drawings.

A good example would be the work of John K, but even his work carries a minor setup.

The drawings were very basic, in humor based work that can sometimes work in ones favor, this time however it doesn't.

The length was very short, and the piece at the end didn't do anything for me...

Work on these things and you'll have a significantly better piece in the future.

Thanks,
- Celx

Cool, but left me desiring more...

Hello,

The film had a dark foreboding feeling to it,
and the imagery was pretty cool, & the music also suited the piece.

Unfortunately, the animation varied from being good, to poor.
Another problem was the drawings seemed rushed, as if you didn't take the time to make the anatomy accurate.

It was also pretty short, & I couldn't really figure out the story, so I'm going to assume you wished to begat a narrative, and focus on creating a mood.

I think you did pull off a disturbing atmosphere, so I'll credit you that,
however the other flaws do hurt the overall integrity of the film.

Sincerely,
- Celx

Good attempt...

The song, and your choreography of the animation to the music was well done...
Unfortunately the drawings themselves were lacking...

I respect that you did this FBF, however the submission still felt quite short.

I feel you should improve the length, and perhaps add a theme, or narrative
in the future. Should you wish to begat that, at least provide some abstract shapes, or at least something unique, to make any future piece you do stand out.

I've seen so many of these kind of submissions made to the portal,
and it gets redundant after a while...

That said you seem to have some skill animating, and I feel you could pull off a cool video if you put your mind to it (you have good skill with timing which is very important).

Sincerely,
- Celx

Very poor quality...

I must say I didn't like this cartoon at all,
The drawings were bad, the animation was horrid.

I know you mentioned that you used a mouse, and we shouldn't blame you for the quality of your drawing due to that.

Frankly I can't sympathize with that argument. Some of my early work was done with a mouse, and alot of prominent animators on the portal still use mice, since they can't afford wacoms... Yet they still are able to produce decent animations/drawings.

You also mentioned that the art style was intended, and that is a fair argument,
however just because poor work is what you were going for doesn't make it any better.

The replay button at the end was in dire need of a larger "hit state",
because without that it was extremely frustrating to use...

I couldn't dig the concept either, and I felt it was too short.

Next time work on your drawing, animation, & narrative,
& you will have a better product.

Thanks,
- Celx

You have a point. but just look at the score! can all those people be wrong?

This deeply upsets me...

Wow,

Another submission doesn't get the recognition it deserves, should I be surprised?
This was really well done, why you didn't get at least 5'th is beyond me.

The animation was very solid, & voice acting was acceptable.
The story was cool, although a little ambiguous, and unfinished.

There were a couple of issues though, the drawings were inconsistent in terms of
their proportions, for instance one second a character seemed tall, and the next he seemed to shirk a bit.

Although you had a replay button I feel you should have added a custom one instead of just making your film go to the beginning preloader.

Anyway it was a really cool halloween submission,
and although you did not win an award, I feel you should be proud of your work.

Thanks,
- Celx

PBass responds:

Well, I think the reason that that happened is because I submitted later in the day, when a lot of people were logged off. By the time the day was over, only a handful of votes were in and I missed out on dailies, ah well. You win some you lose some! I'll just have to try harder next time! :P

Thank you! Yes, the understanding of the story is very dependent on knowledge of the SCP website. I tried to kind of leave a curious feeling with the audience, so that they might check out the website to learn more. But instead I think I confused people as many of them think I got it from Dr. Who, lol.

Yeah, looking back I notice my characters keep changing height slightly. One of them keeps getting heavier and skinnier too. I'll have to check my proportions much better my next animation.

The lack of a replay button is simply because I ran out of time and because I completely fail at any form of actionscript. I break everything when I use it, haha.
Right now I'm working on creating a menu, subtitles, easter eggs, and a replay button. Most of the time I just stare confused at an AS tutorial.

Thanks Celx! Even if I don't grab a prize, it was great experience! Thanks a million for your review and encouragement!

Decent animation, but way too short, & random

Hello,

I really dug the whole "retro" 1950's cartoon feel you had going on.
The animation itself was fairly solid, with the exception of when the guy carrying the bag is walking to the cafeteria, which wasn't as good as it should have been...

The narrative was too random, and the cartoon itself was really short.
You didn't put a replay button which also put me off.
And it ended really abruptly.

I know you wanted to lampoon the columbine massacre, but frankly I don't see the point you were trying to make...

Was this supposed to be some vague critique of the U.S. army?

Thanks,

Delightfully perverse

I need to express my admiration for this marvelous parody of the "nom nom nom",
flash.

You are a truly gifted animator, and artist,
these zombies look like they took forever to draw...
The animation wasn't quite as good, but still above par, and considering
the drawings extremely difficult to do.

The humor itself was very depraved, yet still comedic,
& the various "camera angles" kept this from becoming boring.

I do however feel it was a bit short, and I definitely feel you should have included
extras, because a piece like this deserves them...

You have a real talent for depicting salacious content,
in both a serious, and humorous fashion.

I only hope you'll keep it up...
Thanks,
- Celx

P.S. Was that naked chick with the cleaver, inspired by the monster from the end of
the spanish film" REC."?

As unsettling as it is tragic...

For a while I've refrained from reviewing this, because it's quite difficult to do so
without bias. After much deliberation, I thought instead of a review I would write an "essay".

I remember watching this film before Jeff had committed his killing spree,
at the time I didn't think much of it, other that it was a fairly decent cartoon.

Upon watching the film again in the context of what occurred, one can see
this was the product of a deeply troubled individual.

The clown in the film could have been the way Jeff saw the world, things that were supposed to be innocent became corrupt, perverted, and dangerous...

At the time the killings occurred the media focused on his other more violent cartoon. I don't know why since this one seems to say more about the true nature of the individual.

Jeff was a mixed up youth, crying for help...
He couldn't find it through his teachers, parents, or peers.

The saddest thing about this story isn't that the murders occurred... It's that they could have been prevented.

Good Cartoon...

Hello,

I really liked the animation on this one,
The drawing style reminded me of south park, unfortunately the drawings themselves weren't quite as sharp/clean.

The audio was fine, dynamic sounds would have made this better, but I don't think they are a necessity. The humor isn't my thing, I usually prefer something more salacious... That being said I think you made a piece your target audience would enjoy.

Overall a very good film, I just feel it's not "perfect"...
Sincerely,
~ Celx
