Re: themysterymeatman
Notice that the trailer is their *only* submission on Newgrounds. That puts all of their work at a significant disadvantage versus someone who has 400-1000+ fans backing them up, no matter how awesome their work is.

True building up a fanbase does give one an advantage when releasing submissions.
Yeah, this site is probably the most community driven site 'round the web. Even the admins are similar to any other member of the community in a lot of ways. Even me, a pretty lame 15 year old kid who mostly just spams with his crew buddies has gotten some recognition. Getting FP on an art submission was pretty damn exciting, even if the reviews weren't too positive.
I definitely agree with W-P-S, too. Being in Soup Squad, Lock Legion and Clock Crew (not sure if im proud of this) I've been surrounded by a lot of people who hate most popular artists on NG, mostly because, they're popular, and also think NG has turned to shit, which I wouldn't say it has.
I do however think we need some kind of push in the UJ portal. More of an incentive to vote? Not really sure.
Fair enough.
An upbeat assessment after all, I like that.
The nature of the internet has changed since NG's 2007 peak, and will continue to change (into a pissy, corporate-class, box of vomitus ads/trends/content).
One thing I've never heard: Newgrounds has lost heart.
Newgrounds really is something special :)
"Doing so helps make those submissions that deserve to do well a better chance of getting exposure, vs a poorly created submission crammed with stupid pop culture references made to pander to the lowest common denominator."
You're right in almost every way, but a big chunk of the user base on NG who aren't themselves artists brought us there despite the voting power. For example, If I see one more fucking Pokemon flash I might regurgitate.
hrmmm.
God your writing style is FUCKING GRATING.
Read the phrase "hypocritical ostentation at it's worst" back to yourself, and then please punch your own face and say "I am an idiot" out loud.
Nah, I'll leave the violence to ex-girlfriends, and angry basement dwellers on the interwebz.
I'm not shilling for views, however, my last animation didn't even get featured in the daily 5 simply because it took too long to judge whilst animations and games with lower scores got through fine.
I'm not asking a lot here, apart from the automated system to at least be a bit functional.
It's better now :)
"Perfect"?
I wouldn't say so.
I'm no artist myself (yet :p), but I remember some months ago I totally randomly fell on Jess-The-Dragoon's (jess-the-dragoon.newgrounds.com/) Super Hero Clock Teaser (newgrounds.com/portal/view/608160). I thought it was absolutely great, don't even remember how I fell on it (I think for once like I do once every 1000 years I went to the portal or something). Needless to say that this is quality animation too. However, it never (at the time) reached the front page and dissapeared in the wild (after weeks, so it wasn't the judgement). Why? I dunno. But guess what else reached the frontpage? BATMAN EATS PIKACHU PARODY or whatever it was (Batman eats pikachu 2 or parody or whatever). And some other shit, like I can also remember a Sonic poop parody that utterly sucked. That's when I started wondering how the frontpage worked. I even spoke a bit with Jess-The-Dragoon who really wanted to get known yet her work (only spends time on that) yet just went undiscovered while some utter shit reached the frontpage (AT THAT TIME, lemme remind). So I had to PM and beg Tom Fulp (yeah, kinda did that lol) to take a look at her work (and maybe put her work on the frontpage), which he then did and I'm thankful to that because I really loved that work (and that helped the artist get a bit more recognition :) ).
Now, however, it seems that these kinda craps don't get on the frontpage anymore and we only get good works :) Well, I'm not really interested by most of the flashes, not everything is as great as Fire Tiger v. Acid Panther, but at least effort has been put into it and it pleases people :)
So in the end I wouldn't say it's 'perfect' (all because of that little accident some months ago) but it's still a good system now, so people need to stop whining already ~.~
But it's true that sometimes really great vids go unnoticed for some reason. Though nowadays it seems rather rare. So if you're not on frontpage, probably means you need to do better :P
Viva Newgrounds :) Be prepared for when I'll get into animation mwahaha ! ;)
Your post was very difficult to read...
I don't cry when people hate on me so....
I just do the smart thing and block them. XD
I don't care if I'm famous or not, heck I never saw myself getting more than one fan, yet I have eleven, and I feel special.
I don't wanna compete with everyone because it's just like you said, There is nothing that makes you better than me.
And I like to express myself without limitations, thats why I came to NG.
I just wish they would add a writing section, but everything else is awesome.
The literature portal is coming comrade :)

nice post,
I personally agree with everything youve said :3
Thank you Mr. Chamber :)
A remarkably sane guy, is Mr. Chamber. I've gotten into the habit of subconsciously testing ppl.
So... what news from the Riddermark? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Riddermark Gotta love Mr. Jackson's productions..... How's your battle with sanity/sobriety/reality/finances?
My battles have never been more fluid :\ Feel like a holy diver, if you'll forgive the drunken Black Sabbath reference. I should bookmark what little I have of my old TV show.... go it dropboxed... https://www.dropbox.com/s/9e6twijuga6gl3k/Disp osable%20People%20-%201x1%20-%20Intro.mpg
I'm still owed a ton of money, but it's slowly being paid off!
Even when I do get paid though, I can't really enjoy it since it either goes to rent, or is set aside for two people I hired for a secret project, which hopefully will make me some serious scratch once it's complete.
This month was brutal finances wise cause I needed to go to a doctor, I have transient status cause I travel a lot, so I don't get B.C. health coverage, so any medical expenses come out of my own pocket :(
The little money I do manage to save is being set aside to travel so I can get more money, a catch 22 (my money is all liquid, hidden away in a safe deposit box).
Currently I'm sleeping on the floor, taking my clothes to get washed at my friends house, and cringing when I look at my nice furniture that got damaged in the move to this new city.
Also I think I pissed off one of my best friends because I didn't do a rail with him on his birthday; but frankly I'm a functioning alcoholic, I don't need a coke habit on top of that.
The only bright side to all this I have had more free time to work on my film, and it's on the cusp of completion, I think at worst I have another three days of work ahead of me before I'll be ready to submit it to the portal.
Overall though it's been fun, moving here was a step up, and in a few months I'm going to have all my ducks in a row, so it's just a matter of being focused, and remaining motivated and positive.
I have a very cynical view of people, In my experience the only person that's able to help me is myself, so I'm working towards straightening out this mess, and learning from the mistakes I've made...
Being in dutch sucks, I prefer to be a cash and carry kinda guy. Credit creeps me out... but LT investments are always worth the risk - people should come before profit.
Liver's okay, I trust.... ah, good, don't trust the banks with your numbers of credits! You're too close to America to do otherwise! My grandparents buried their money, rather than trust banks (and their ancient ilk: check out Friday the 13th on wiki).
Oh shit, you did move! Fuck, hope the grass looks, and actually is greener where you are now. Big respect for transporting your comfort zone. Yeah, be wary of another truly addictive substance... I'm lucky I never got worse than tobacco, but it's enough to kill me right the fuck off :( Coke is for insecure girls and lawyers :\
Another production bagged and tagged, huh? From there, you can only go up. Still can't beat the buzz a completed production can give you, especially the first time you see it... just press play, and let the images fall into place.... being the first human to indulge in a masterpiece of your own making :)
Know what you mean about... being self motivated and having standards of workmanship. Saying and meaning the right thing at the right time, can mean stand or fall, to the right ears. I have a friend here who did that... Tom Fulp sent him an autographed postcard and some stickers for the effort he made. Force of will and fate, I guess.
Yeah I don't trust banks, after the "Wall Street Fiasco", the shit that hit the fan in Cyprus, and the euro crisis, I keep my cash liquid, or invest in art, everything else is too risky. If I was a millionaire I would buy property in Saint Kitts, and St.Nevis and just live there, it's a long term goal of mine.
I love cigarettes, but I've ostensibly quit, I still have one every now and then, but I don't buy packs anymore...
Initially when I started this project I was hoping to get in the top 5 for the month, cause I really wanted one of those monthly award certificates (back when Tom was still issuing them).
I think the competition has gotten a lot better, and that may not be a realistic goal anymore, but I'm still working on it because it's something I feel I need to complete before I can move on to other things.
The only way I can describe my feeling towards this project is that it feels like a coda, not only towards my other work, but these last 5 years of my life as well.
When the project is over I guess I'll write a massive post about the trilogy, but that's the short version of how I feel.
Well they say property can never go down in value, but unless there's a plague....
No packs? Then.... you roll your own, or just bum... to keep up with conversation? Surprised Mr. Krinkels knew what a tailor made smoke was... Certificates? No shit! Should get on him about that.. honors do a mind good.
Absolutely. Conquer, secure, then move on :) Coda... hm, more like quantifying a portion of your existence, and fuck, that is more than prudent. Epilogue... hm, I took a course on screenwriting in NYC about that. Was quite helpful.
Wanted to go back, but 'they' destroyed two buildings near where I took the course... and America went mad and never recovered :\ Learn to survive without electricity when and while you can.
Yes but property can rise in value so much that one might not be able to keep up with property taxes!
I Bogart them when I need to, I used to have a rolling machine but I gave that away like two years ago, it's probably for the best...
Yup, same here, that's why I gotta go, even with a tax protected farm, the house itself incurs a tax independent of the farm. Worst taxes in the US is where I'm at :|
Bought can the other day, usually buy packets tobacco (.6 oz) which is equal to just over a pack of rolled filtered jobs. :P filthy smoking all that thick paper and without a filter to mitigate teh smell, but that's what I do.
My cartoon should be released tonight, after that I'm going to have a cancer and a drink to celebrate, god I miss cigarettes so much :(...
God, I miss booze so much... I'd like to quit the bacco. Down here they added a shit-ton of chalk to the paper (FSC fire safety code), tastes like you ate from the bottom tray of the chalkboard :P
Sounds like a good release time - you get the morning crowd, a day before the flash flood Friday mess
I just hope I don't get down-voted cause of clock day!
It's on the cusp of completion, just need to figure out a few more things...
What I might do is release the film, then work on adding extra material during the course of the night,
we'll see!
Oooh shit, good point! Maybe hold off till Wed or Thurs of next week? Or early F... nah, Portal will be gummed up.... if you can publish in the next hour or so, you may beat the tidal wave!
Hmm, tough choice, but why not? You can update as you go, right?
Uhh too tired to keep working on it, I put in a 17hr day and I'm about ready to crash, I think it's gonna need to wait until Saturday morning.

"The trait that all these submissions share in common is that they are well done, the good films/games do get recognition, it's the mediocre, and poor efforts that fall into obscurity."
True, but it doesn't explain why http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/615500 still has only 6k views.
Celx-Requin
It's a very well done trailer, unfortunately it is just a trailer, frankly it's hard to gain a following or exposure over something that isn't yet complete.
More to the point I remember the staff actually put up that submission on the front page, the submission just didn't connect with people enough to garner a massive audience, what more can be asked of newgrounds?
6000+ is still fantastic for a new artist, for a bit of comparison, Kenny Hotz's youtube radio show only gets around 10000 views despite his celebrity status.
