For someone to think their life is bad, they surely must percieve a particular standard of life better than their own to be the 'acceptable' quality of life. But the fact that we're sitting around talking on the internet means we're more than likely in the top 50% of people worldwide when it comes to privelages, and that's only the ones that are alive. If we then compare our lives to those of every person throughout history then we realise how ridiculously good we have it. And then of course you can consider the lives of every non-human organism.
So while there's nothing wrong with trying to improve your life, that doesn't mean people should bitch when they fall below somebody else. It's not someone's God-given right to have an iphone or threesomes. Hell, it's not someone's God-given right to have food or shelter or to live in safety.
Everyone should try and be happy regardless of what they have. While a lot of people don't see how they can be happy when some people have more shit than them, the end result of being happy is obviously happiness, which is why you want all the shit you don't need in the first place.
I was originally going to end off the year with a "don't take things for granted", and "be happy with what you have" speech.
And I think I touched upon the fact that I don't really think I'm in such a bad place, and in reality I'm being a whinny bitch.
But that message is so trite and boring, everyone already acknowledges those sentiments merely by continuing to live. People who truly hate living tend to off themselves, it's in our nature to make the best out of what we perceive to be "bad" situations.
A better message is stop bitching and work harder to get yourself to a better place. Like you've stated we're in the upper segments of the class structure for no other reasons than being born in rich countries, Africans and other poorer people have it worse.
Nothing is anyones "right", but by the same token life is really just the desire for more, in essence taking is living, and everyone who is alive strives for more of the things that will bring them happiness.
My only problem is people bitching when there isn't any real reason too, peoples goals for happiness are subjective, but the one thing that remains the same is the requirement of effort to achieve said goals.
I'm happy if people have more shit than me, however people in my same position who complain without taking responsibility for their actions make me want to swallow cyanide.
Tis why it's better to enjoy one's company and live alone. Did that most of my life, had a freind who's roommate screwed her up the ass with rent and textbook money by pawning her books. Can't trust people, that's the sucky thing. Though most people suck, it's only once in a blue moon that you find a person who's actually likeable, and will never backstab you. Bettter to be a loner, never have to rely on anyone or pay for anyone's shit.
I agree, I'm sick of those people who go "OMG FLM!!111!!0 MY LIFE SUX! MY ORDER DIDN'T COME FOR XMAS!!111!" Gets old, especially when others aer in far more dire situations. Usually those bitchers don't do a thing for those less fortunate. And even then places that "donate" tend to steal the money and clothes for their own needs.
You'll be fine, don't worry. Worry about yourself, and a merry Christmas to you.
