Reality Slap...

It is shocking how your art seems to be getting worse with each progressive submission.

You sent this to me a while back via p.m "Sorry, pal...But you're not telling which art style to switch to", the thing is it's not your style it's a poor bastardization of manga.

There isn't any aesthetic aspect that would make me look at your work and say that's a "hiryu gouki piece", aside from the hideous proportions, and grotesque anatomy.

In this piece for example, what the fuck is up with her legs and upper body? The proportions are all wrong, and the wink she's giving is creepy and makes her seem like a pants on head retard. Lastly you couldn't even take two minutes to do a drop shadow properly, that's just lazy.

Uhhhhh fuck you had some of the best artists on newgrounds giving your work criticism and you haven't taken any of their advice to heart, that's sad man.

DragonPunch responds:

Actually, I have been trying to take it to heart. I just haven't found my niche yet, but thanks for being an A-hole. Yes, I do acknowledge there are things wrong with this picture, and I intend to do better next time. However, someone like me needs encouragement to do so, not useless bullcrap about calling me names, or saying my stuff is "fucked up" and stuff like that. I need you guys to make better critiques and make it seem like you're not total butt holes.

Thanks.

What the fuck is his name?

You have a similar style to this artist who does really intricate surrealistic portraits of people.

Type "Charles Mason: Superstar Poster" into a search engine, if you wanna see what I mean.

It's quite upsetting I can't remember his name, I'm going to look it up right now...
Fuck!

Anyway really cool picture man, I love the grimy "texture" it has, and the wonderful detail.

Sincerely,
- Celx

jake-jeckel responds:

Maybe you are thinking of the French artist Auguste Rodin who mad the Gates Of Hell ...or damn I can't seem to remember the name of a painting I saw in art history.

Very cool...

I like this, I don't know why the reviewer below felt the lines were off, within the context of the proportions the lines fit quite nicely.

You make a good use of space as well, and the salient bit of red you use on the tongue is well executed and cool.

While it's not quite as nice as the madness picture you did it's still a good picture deserving of something other than a 6...

Sincerely,
- Celx

linda-mota responds:

I guess the madness drawing has set a bar for my work eh? (lol)

This is more of a figure study of one of my characters. It does get very discouraging when people say the way i ink is crappy.

Any way, thank you for rating!

Angels Thanatos...

The concept of "angels thanatos" was conceived by Freud and was used to describe a person who begets reality and chooses to live in delusion. This I believe would accurately describe you, but I'll elaborate on that at the end of my review.

The issue I have with your artwork isn't that it's bad, the problem is it's so fucking generic, it looks like every other faggy weebo wanna be anime art on the web.

You take the time to do shading but you miss small details like the black and white circles on the ying-yang symbol on your characters leg.

You also integrate an extremely abrasive and obnoxious background, why would you do that? It doesn't mesh well with the illustration and ruins any consistency you've built, frankly it's a ugly salient background.

Also you should attempt to look at americana style art work from the 1930's-1950's before you attempt to draw the manga style of drawing, since manga is basically a bastardization of that art style. It's important to have some frame of reference if your looking to obtain work in the animation industry, otherwise you'll look like a queer "otaku".

Traditional japanese scrolls are done in ukiyo-e style (meaning they're flat looking). Only faggy douche bags think anime is actual japanese art. Try to play with the genre look at Masami Teraokas art if you wanna see how mixing styles should be.

If you're going to put up your work you should be prepared to accept criticism, as it stands now you've come off as grossly hypocritical and pretentious man child.

Perhaps I shouldn't be talking since my work is all that great either, but at least when someone says my art sucks I can acknowledge the critique (even if I disregard their suggestions since I only do my shit for fun). You on the other hand should be your harshest critic if you want to pursue this as a career.

Also your comments on deviant art make you look semi retarded, and your art featuring semi-nude chicks are so pretentious, (if you wanna make "fap" material at least have the fucking balls to do porn proper).

Lastly back to my angels thanatos point, the reason you're getting so much flak from people is because you're asking for advice you obviously don't think you need since you've done nothing but disregard the advice you've been given.

If you don't want advice please don't ask for it and instead stay on deviantart and be content with the circle jerk you get from other "artists", and block everyone else who hurts your feelings.

DragonPunch responds:

Sorry, pal...But you're not telling which art style to switch to. However, I will improve on my backgrounds, character details and such. As for the generic part; well, I can't help that. But, honestly, I do get annoyed when I miss little details. While, I do have an ego, I don't consider it big enough to ruin any part of my artwork. I look at criticism like medicine. I hate it, but I know that in the long run it will only help me. I have been better about criticism, but looking at how many useless zeroes I get, I can't help but be a little bit pissed off at the people who only want to make fun of me instead of telling me what I am missing. I do sincerely appreciate your input (even though I hate being criticized, then again so do a lot of us). I have allowed constructive criticism to be given to me on DeviantART. The only reason I take it better there is because people honestly point out mistakes here and there, and I work my damnedest to make sure I don't mess up again. Again, I would really appreciate honest feedback, although, honestly, my feelings would get hurt a little. Hey, you can't scorn me for being honest. However, I would like detailed criticism so I can improve my work in the long run. For now, I am not changing my art style; I'm not in college or anything, so at the moment I see no need to. Please review my other work, and please help me to become a better artist. I ask this whole-heartedly of the entire internet community. Feedback is appreciated.

Well done...

Hello,

I really like your use of colors, and the gentle shading you give everything, the colors you use give off a great texture, and everything seems really organic.

Great drawings, specifically the overlapping hands were cool and well done, I dig how unique you made each of them.

Although I like the piece, I don't quite understand why you didn't draw nipples, not doing so makes the art seem off to me.

Other than that it was very cool,
Sincerely,

Merol responds:

Glad you liked it!
I actually didn't want to draw the nipples, i don't know, I just thought it would look better this way, and I like how it looks! But I completely understand if it looks off to you.

THANKS A LOT!!

Very Cool!

Hello,

I like it, the only thing I can really say against it is maybe you should have inked it, I think it would have made the colors come out "sharper", and more abrasive.

Lastly I think I would have given you a higher score if the pattern was more complex.

Still I like it, good work!

Hacsev responds:

I understand what you meant by sharper, but I couldn't do anything about it. Anyways, if I had made the pattern more complex none of you would understand it. Thanks for the review anyways!

This is great...

Hello,

I think if you removed the blood it actually could have been "got milk?" ad.
I mean there was a "got milk?" ad that featured mario back in the day.

Man I miss Earthworm Jim, anyway when are you gonna get back to creating flash cartoons man? The portal is in dire need of another "last minute shopper", maybe not a sequel but something similar for sure.

Sincerely,
- Celx

knobbywood responds:

fear not, there is another amazing x-mas special in the works!

Wow Lady!

This is great however I need to disagree with the poster below.

While Ralph Steadman does make similar use of colors, your work is closer
to that of Gerald Scarfe.

Since the warped autonomy of the characters you draw is closer to his work, than Steadman's.

I digress this is great, was it done by hand?
Sincerely,
- Celx

linda-mota responds:

Jeez, I need to look up these artists, they sound awesome. I'm more inspired by the 30 days of night artist and some other manga artists, but that's off topic.

Yes, everything was done by hand. the red was painted on, and some back ink was thrown in too. Thanks for youe comments! =D

Most excellent!

This should be the cover of a deluxe edition of your comic should you ever release one...

It's really well done, gotta love the photoshop!

Thanks,
- Celx

Comick responds:

I was thinking if I could do anything with this...I might make it the graphic on the back of issue 2 or something! Not sure yet. But thanks! Glad they turned out well ^^

Tropic of Cancer...Anyone?

Hello,

I really like this, I like it so much I've added you to my favorites along with this piece.

I digress, your use of color is fantastic, the way you've lightly mixed the light blue with the "harder" blue is really subtle and well done.

The pattern in the sky is again fantastic, there isn't really anything wrong with this piece aside from the woman's feet seem to need more detail, as they aren't as clearly defined as the hands you've given her.

Thus making her seem somewhat more abstract than perhaps you were aiming for.
I caught the little castaway reference too, although it invokes the same feeling I got from reading the "tropic of cancer", it's a good book you should pick it up...

Do you do commissions?
Something like this would be cool to have in my office.

Sincerely,
- Celx

Merol responds:

Hello!

Yeah, I suck at drawing feet and I specially suffered with this one, I had to remade them several times, I think that's noticeable.
I actually don't think she looks abstract, maybe a bit cartoonish.
And I'll definitely try to pick up that book.

About the comissions, I've never made one before (you are the first one that ask for one) ,so, send me a PM and tell me exactly what you want.

THAAAANKS A LOTTT for your review and for adding this picture and me to your favorites, I really apreciate that.

My vices are also my virtues...
